Weekend Trip to Agra and Delhi from Kolkata
Weekend Trip to Agra and Delhi from Kolkata: Hi Guys, I am Vigneswari working as a Software Professional in a reputed firm in Kolkata (The City of Joy). I have a strong desire to travel the world (WANDERLUST kind of). So, I always plan a short trip with my friends. This time we planned for Agra and Delhi trip from Kolkata. Starting our trip to see “One of the World’s Wonder TAJMAHAL” and much more.
Finally, our Agra and Delhi trip completed successfully with loads and loads of sweet memories. These memories will be cherished forever in our life.
The gist of our trip:
Our trip is only for 4 days. (i.e.,) starting from Jan 25, 2018, late night to Jan 30, 2018, early morning. In these 4 days, 2 days is meant for traveling in a train just because a cheaper option to travel for such a long distance and 1 day is to roam Agra and another day is to roam Delhi. As our trip duration is very short, we don’t want to waste time by standing in queues for getting entry tickets. So, we already got our tickets online. Visit http://www.delhitourism.gov.in for more information.Day 1- 26th Jan(Kolkata to Agra):
We (a group of 4 friends) started our journey on Thursday, Jan 25, 2018. Our train SDAH AJMER EXP was scheduled at 22.55. But unfortunately, it was delayed by 2 hrs. So, we departed from Sealdah around 1’o clock on Jan 26, 2018. We chose this weekend just because it is a long weekend due to Republic Day. We got on the train and settled well. The train is supposed to reach Agra by that day evening around 18.35. But due to fog, the train got delayed by 12 hours. At last, we reached Agra Fort Station by 5’o clockDay 2- 27th Jan(At Agra): Taj Mahal
Early morning, we reached our hotel from the station by auto. As per our plan, we need to start from our hotel room around 6.30 in the morning. But as we reached late to Agra Fort station, we postponed our timings slightly. We started from a hotel at 7.00. We took an auto from our hotel to Taj Mahal. Yayyy!!!! Finally, we are about to see the beautiful monument. We reached Taj Mahal entrance at 7.20. We moved inside and we preferred a tour guide and he charged Rs. 675. Now we are standing in front of our beautiful Taj Mahal, but as it was fully covered with fog, we couldn’t see it clearly. We went inside and saw the tombs. Also took some good pictures, selfies and what not. As we came out, Sunshine also came out from the clouds and the view of TAJ MAHAL and Yamuna river is just awesome!! We roamed around the gardens and guest houses near Taj Mahal for around 2 to 3 hours. In the meantime, our guide was explaining various facts about Taj Mahal. We came out and had our breakfast in some local shop and bought famous sweet of Agra “Petha” and souvenirs. Now it is time to visit Agra Fort which is just a few KMs far away from Taj Mahal.Agra Fort, Agra
We took an auto to reach Agra Fort. We reached around 11:00. Agra Fort, another beautiful place, was pleasing our eyes. We roamed inside for more than 1.30 hours. Then we had to rush for the train. Yess!! We had our next train SWARNA JAYANTI EXP at 14.05 from Agra Cantt station. Again, unfortunately, it got delayed by 2 hours. But still, it was okay, because we needed to take some rest and, in the meantime, we had our lunch. The train arrived around 16:00 and we reached NIZAMUDDIN junction New Delhi at 19:15 hours.New Delhi | Day 2 Ends Here
We missed enjoying the Light show @ red fort which we booked already because of the train delay. On the way to our hotel, we stopped at India Gate which was well decorated with lights for the occasion of Republic Day. Then we headed towards our hotel which is near Chandni Chowk. After reaching the room, we got refreshed then went out for having nice dinner at Parantha Wale Gali. We had good dinner with the final touch of Badam milk. Then we reached the hotel and thus the day 2 ended with sound sleep.Day 3- 28th Jan(New Delhi):
As per our plan, we woke up, got ready and had breakfast in our hotel. As we are 4 persons, we booked a cab from the hotel itself instead of going in the metro to visit places. The cab took Rs.1200 for roaming 8 hours from morning 8.00 to evening 4.00. Below are the places we visited that day.1. Jama Masjid:
It was a huge mosque which was surrounded by pigeons. It was a bliss to see so many pigeons having their food inside the mosque. Then we headed towards Humayun's Tomb.2. Humayun's Tomb:
It is called mini Taj Mahal because of it resembles Taj Mahal. Then we headed towards Lotus Temple.3. Lotus Temple:
The temple got this name because of its structure like LOTUS. There was a huge garden surrounding the temple. There are no religions divided between doing prayer inside the temple. Anyone can go and pray for there well wishes to happen. It is just a calm place to sit and meditate. Then we headed towards Qutub Minar.4. Qutub Minar:
It is one of the famous monument we have ever seen. We reached there around 13.00 and it was overcrowded as the day was Sunday. But we are lucky to have E-tickets, so we went inside in just a blink of an eye. Took some pics and headed towards Safdarjung Tomb.5. Safdarjung Tomb:
All the tombs structure was almost similar and after visiting that place for some time, we headed towards Jantar Mantar.6. Jantar Mantar:
It is one of the unique places in Delhi where you can see multiple buildings structure in a different style. These were used for astronomical purposes in olden days. Then we headed towards Sarojini market for some shopping. Yeah as a girl I was very much excited to go that market (because I have heard that, that is the market where we can get things at the cheaper price)7. Sarojini Market:
Hurray!!! We reached the market by 16.00 and our cab timing is also over. So, we settled him by giving 1200/- and took our bags with us. We roamed for almost 4 to 5 hours. Then booked uber for heading towards Delhi station. We reached station around 23.00 and we had our dinner on the way to the station.Day 4- 29th Jan(Delhi to Kolkata):
Our train JALIANWALA B EXP which was supposed to arrive at 19.05, finally arrived at 00.00 at Delhi station. Again, delayed due to fog. We caught the train and we were tired like hell, so as soon as we got into our seats we slept. After 14 hours delay, finally, it arrived at Sealdah station next day morning at 10.00 hours. Finally, our Agra and Delhi trip completed successfully with loads and loads of sweet memories. These memories will be cherished forever in our life.
