Trip to Sri Lanka from India
Trip to Sri Lanka from India: We had planned a trip on 2nd May 2015. We checked which were the cheapest flights available and which city we needed to board to go to Srilanka to avail the lowest fare. We decided on 15th May 2015 about the flights and decided to travel from Chennai to Bandaranaike International Airport. Our scheduled date of departure was on 15th September 2015 and that of arrival was on 20th September 2015. We were four of us, my parents, my wife and myself. We stayed in a hotel which was around 5 km from the airport. The daily rental charges for the room were 4000 INR. This is one of the low budget hotels, though I do not recollect the name of the hotel.
We went to many beaches including Unawatuna beach, Bentota beach. I was really amazed to note that the government is doing its bit to preserve nature. The water is green in color and is transparent (You can see yourself in water). The government is also taking a keen interest in ensuring tortoises thrive near the beaches and have encouraged opening to tortoise rearing near the beaches by setting up camps to provide appropriate temperature to tortoise eggs. Once the eggs are hatched, then they are released to the beach. We had been to Negombo, where we saw the Dutch Fort. Our journey from Colombo to Gayle was a superb one. We traveled by local train and saw the beach extend from Colombo to Gayle.
The food expenses during our stay in the hotel were quite expensive. A breakfast could cost you somewhere between 250-500 INR, while a lunch could cost us somewhere between 700-1000 INR per head. The airport in Srilanka was very clean unlike the one in Chennai. The roads too were very good.
We returned back on 20th September to Chennai and boarded a bus and came back to Bangalore on 21st September 2015 morning. Overall, it was a very good experience. Recommended visiting at least once.
Wish you a nice trip to Srilanka.
