Trip to Lonavala | Lonavala Travel Blog
Being a North Indian, I have seen almost all Hill stations in North India, and this time I wanted to explore the different place and different culture. So I decided to visit Lonavala this time, Lonavala is a hill station near Pune in Maharashtra. we reached Mumbai directly from Chandigarh and took a road trip for Lonavala. I must say roads for Lonavala are just so beautiful. It took us almost 3 hours from Mumbai to reach Lonavala, but the best part was Mumbai Pune expressway, As it is very close to Mumbai and Pune, Lonavala is considered as one of the best weekend getaways for teenagers and families from a daily routine.
Lonavala is famous for Chikki, Chikki is a traditional Indian sweet generally made from groundnuts and jaggery. There are plenty of varieties available, and it makes for a great snack to take back home after the weekend getaway. You will find n number of Chikki shops in the market with the Name of Maganlal and National. If you are a foodie Lonavala will not disappoint you as you will get different flavors of Chikki and so many varieties in street food.
We reached Lonavala and checked into the hotel, it was raining outside and the view from our balcony was amazing. All the tiredness and dizziness went off in seconds after seeing the view, we started exploring Lonavala after that.
Lonavala Bushi Dam:
We parked our car in the parking and started walking for Bushi Dam, we were very excited to see this location as it is considered as the most visited place of Lonavala, but While entering Bushi dam, we have been advised not to go further as they said there is no water in the dam, but we wanted to explore the place. We started walking, we saw many tea stalls, Maggi stalls and Bhutha (Corn) stalls in between. We reached at the highest point where we could see the dam, but unfortunately, there was no such water. So we started enjoying the weather rather than thinking about the dam. But I would advise to visit the place because I have seen pictures of this place during monsoons, its an awesome place to visit. I think we were little early to visit this place.
Tiger Point:
Tiger’s Point is a cliff-top with a sheer drop of over 650 m, giving an extensive view. It resembles the shape of a tiger. Legend has it that while being chased by a tiger once, the Maratha king Shivaji jumped into a ditch on the hill and the tiger leaped off it into the valley giving it the name of tiger’s leap. The best part of this place is, it is covered with the fog, The fog gives a picturesque view of the site. You will find various hookah vendors, Maggi stalls, camel rides, ATV etc. its altogether a must visit place as you don’t feel like leaving this place because of the ambiance.
There’s one similar point known as Lions point, we did not go there because we were getting late and it was almost late in the evening, but you can try this place for sure to get some different experience.
Lonavala Lake:
Lonavala lake is also known as monsoon lake, as it gets water through rains during monsoon season, and it gets dries in the winter. This place is really good for picnics and sightseeing and is ideal for families and as well as couples.
Bhaja caves:
The Bhaja caves are among the oldest caves of India. The Bhaja caves are a group of 22 rock-cut caves which are believed to have existed from the times of Hinayana phase of Buddhism, which is of 2nd to 1st century BC. Amongst it, the 22 rock cut caves display the sculpture of a prince in a chariot, dancing couple, an armed warrior and a prince seated on an elephant. One should visit this place if they like exploring and learning new ideas and culture. The first cave is the place for the master of the cave which is succeeded by the Buddhist temple. This was the last place we visited in Lonavala and in true sense the best way to end the trip too as we all loved the site.
Best time to travel Lonavala:
The best time to visit Lonavala is during the monsoons, as nature would be at its best during this season.
The best place to Stay in Lonavala:
